HOW DOES THIS HEALTH INSURANCE PROGRAM WORK?
Does this work similar to the health insurance I have from my employer? A common questions we hear everyday from our first time members trying to purchase insurance for visiting parents, relatives, or for themselves after recently laid off from their work.
THIS IS A UNIQUE SPECIAL RISK PROGRAM and often compares much better than what you are getting from your employer's health insurance for a given dollar premium. The program is high risk because visitors, who are a major component of this program are in the United States and Canada for a short time - anywhere from 3 months to 36 months and risks are VERY HIGH. That is one reason, insurance careers such as BlueCross, AETNA, United Health etc. DO NO OFFER coverage for visitors or US Citizens beyond Medicare eligible Age (usually 64).
Many of you covered by your employer are in group programs which costs a lot more $$s than collected from you as your employer is subsidizing large part of premiums. The India Network Health Insurance programs works something similar as a large group of India Network Members taking the plan for their relatives. Our risks are assessed as a group and our premiums are set based on our own claims experience. The only difference is, NO EMPLOYER subsidy and hence you pay what it costs to get the insurance.
COVERAGE DIFFERENCES:
The coverage provided by the Health Insurance programs are similar to many employer programs or even superior. You have complete freedom to choose a physician of your liking or going to a hospital of your choice when need arises. THERE ARE NO PRE-AUTHORIZATION REQUIREMENTS. If you take pre-existing condition rider (offered for all age groups), you are assured of coverage for all medical emergencies and critical emergency care.. no exclusions of diseases (amount vary by age and the program chosen - see program link for details. DOCTOR consultation service is an excellent opportunity todiscuss your health with a US based physician, example - diabetic or BP medicines or get a second opinion on the medications you are taking now.
How can I use the plan FOR Doctor Appointments?
1) MAKE APPOINTMENT WITH a DOC OF YOUR CHOICE (there is NO approved list and you can go to anyone). If you do not know anyone check the Provider Directory or your phone bill yellow pages or call your local hospital for referral.
2) GET THE CLAIM FORM FROM THE WEB (FOUND UNDER PRINT FORMS)
3) COMPLETE SECTION A OF THE CLAIM FORM, TAKE BOTH PAGES TO YOUR APPOINTMENT. VISITOR MUST SIGN AT THE END OF SECTION A. (Section A can be submitted online .. see online forms section)
4) GIVE SECTION B TO THE DOCTORS STAFF TO COMPLETE
5) MAIL SECTION A AND SECTION B TO INSURANCE COMPANY ADDRESS LISTED ON THE TOP OF THE CLAIM FORM. (some doctors offices may do this for you as a courtesy).
What does Claims Office Do?
1) VERIFY INSURANCE COVERAGE - Keeping your name, DOB, passport number as given in the insurance form would help identifying your coverage quickly. If you provide one DOB to India Network, something else to the Claims, the claim would be delayed days.
2. SEEK MEDICAL RECORDS FROM ATTENDING PHYSICIAN/HOSPITAL.. In some cases, it is not clear from the claim form and the claims office may request medical records at their own cost to determine benefits. A Check will be issued in the name of Insured Visitor or the Doctor/Hospital within 3 to 6 weeks for all covered claims. The claims office uses a high tech super networks to ensure best possible contracted price paid for the services rendered.
3.If a claim is denied, you will receive Explanation of Benefits and reason for denial. You are welcome to contact the examiner to seek additional information or India Network Office to help you understand your benefits. Under no circumstances, an insured purchasing $50,000 policy can expect or receive benefits of $100,000 or $150,000 policy. SO BE CAREFUL IN CHOOSING THE LOWEST PREMIUM POLICIES. UNDERSTAND THE BENEFITS CLEARLY BEFORE YOU CALL CLAIMS.
4. India Network is committed to provide you the benefits available under the program. We WILL NOT ENTERTAIN REQUESTS FOR PREMIUM DISCOUNTS OR ANY VARIATIONS FROM POLICY PROVISIONS UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.
